What these dishes actually are.
Ackee & Saltfish
Jamaica's national dish. Ackee is a soft yellow fruit that cooks down like scrambled egg, sauteed with salted cod, onion and sweet pepper. It tastes nothing like fish and everything like home.
Callaloo
Leafy greens steamed down with onion, garlic and pepper. Closer to spinach than anything else, and the lighter way to start a morning.
Salt Mackerel
Salted mackerel cooked with tomato and onion until it softens. Salty, rich, and best with boiled green banana or a fried dumpling.
Porridge
Cornmeal, banana or peanut, cooked slow with milk, nutmeg and cinnamon. Warm, thick and filling. The day it is depends on which one is in the pot.
Why we open early
Breakfast is not an afterthought here.
Plenty of places serve Jamaican food in the evening. Very few have a pot of porridge on at half six in the morning, or ackee ready before the sun is properly up.
That is how mornings work at home, so that is how they work here. Come in on your way to work, or call ahead and we will have it boxed and waiting.

Start the day properly.
6:30 in the morning, seven days a week, on State Road 50.
